Testing and control

For many years now VDL is known for its quality products. To maintain this quality level a decent quality control is needed. The first control takes place at the start of the production. The operators inspect the products visually and check the dimensions of the product with a calibre. The quality department makes the second inspection, completed with measurements of the dimensions and a pressure test of 4.2 x the nominal working pressure at 20° C.
The regular production inspections consist of a control round four times a day along the producing machines. The products are then visually inspected, the dimensions are checked with a calibre and if there are doubts they will be measured at the quality department. Two times a day a heating test is carried out to check the appearing tension in the injection point on the product and the connection of the flow-line.
Parts of assembled products are tested on functionallity. The final control after a production consists again of a visual inspection and a dimension check with a calibre. All ball-valves are tested after assembling against leakage.
A KIWA certificate is obtained on a part of the VDL program. These products are only produced with the prescribed and certified materials. Next to the normal inspections these products are measured daily and once a week a pressure test of 4.2x the nominal working pressure 20° C is executed. Five times a year this control system is checked by KIWA.
Large size fittings, bigger than 200 mm, are daily measured and pressure tested at 4.2x the nominal working pressue at 20° C.
With a control system like this it is possible to keep our product quality on a constant high level.
